Neighbourhood watches invited to participate in mobile app survey

The City’s Safety and Security Directorate is currently busy with a survey to get a clearer understanding of the role mobile applications or other technology play in helping neighbourhood watches (NWs) keep communities safe. To allow for as many NWs possible to participate in the survey the City has extended the deadline of the survey.
The NW app survey released last week, was sent to those neighbourhood watches using WhatsApp and Telegram platforms in their daily operations. The objective of the current survey is to find out which platforms are already in use, how effective they are and to inform the City of the applications they use to communicate with the community and other crime prevention role players.
The City’s development team follow an inclusive process and will take into consideration all feedback received from NW.
Participation in the survey has now been extended to Friday, 12 February 2021.

During August last year the City invited NWs to submit proposals via an online survey on their needs for the development of a NW app.
The mobile app, once operational, will assist NWs in managing community operations as well as communicating with other role players. The application will allow for access to specific City services.
Various operational imperatives have been addressed during the development process and will be included in the proposals received. This will add value to the voluntary work being done by NWs.
‘It is important to the City to hear directly from our NWs on what online and mobile applications they currently use as this will inform and drive the development of a City mobile app. The app will allow NWs to improve on their response time, share valuable information and add value as an important link between the City’s enforcement agencies and the community. NWs assist the City in our fight against crime and we will continue with the support and the development of programmes to further strengthen our priority to keep communities safe,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
